BOEGOEBERG 4x4 - ONE OF THE BEST MOUNTAIN TRAILS AND CAMPING FACILITIES IN SOUTH AFRICA - 20 – 22 MARCH 2010

AN IDEAL WEEKEND GETAWAY FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

The Boegoeberg 4x4 trail is situated on the farm “Lambertshoek”, in the “Engelsman se Berge” overlooking Graafwater, Elands Bay, Lambertsbay and Clanwilliam.  Trail owner Sybrie de Beer has been committed from the start to making Boegoeberg 4x4 an eco-friendly, family orientated venue, ensuring maximum pleasure for the whole family, with the minimum impact on the environment.

It has attained its well-deserved “Top Ten” status in the Drive Out magazine. The camp area, with its well thought-out lapa, ablution blocks, plenty of shade, power points at each campsite and a huge swimming pool, are some of the many reasons why this trail is so highly rated. Definitely one of the best camps we visit throughout the year. The farm also has the largest Sandstone Mine in South Africa, where sandstone building blocks are still handcrafted to perfection. The handcrafted sandstone mined here has been used at very well-known destinations. More of this information will be shared with you during our visit. You may even consider purchasing a few square meters of sandstone for that special braai or fireplace you always wanted.  Other sources of income are Rooibos tea, which is well known to the area, and Buchu, which is harvested annually high up in the mountains. The need to get to the Buchu, via many mountain tracks, is how this fantastic trail originated.

The old donkey wagon trail has been transformed into a very popular 4x4 trail, climbing high into the “Engelsman se Berge” to the “Platklip Viewpoint” where panoramic views await you. The white dunes of the Lambertsbay 4x4 trail, the pointy mountain at Elands Bay, the many potatoes circles of the Sandveld and many other landmarks in the Cederberg Mountain range can be seen from the viewpoint.

Remember what goes up must come down and it’s the long technical descent, followed by a steep ascent, which forms part of this very popular trail.  Along the mountain route are some interesting and technical driving sections, marked with very appropriate sandstone name boards. In addition to the mountain trail, you’ll drive a short circular route with a variety of challenges and a sand hill climb challenge, still waiting to find an appropriate name. The latest addition to the trail is the route along a riverbed on the farm. The amount of rain that has fallen prior to a visit to the trail will determine the difficulty of the route along the riverbed. This is always a very popular section and will ensure many highlights and photo opportunities. This is an optional section with escapes at all the obstacles. Remember always adhere to the golden rules of 4x4ing, ‘as slow as possible as fast as necessary’, minimizing the possibility of damage or injury to vehicles, passengers or yourself.

29 MHz RADIOS

Communication between participating vehicles on any 4x4 excursion is important for many reasons.  It ensures the safety of drivers, passengers and vehicles while on a 4x4 trail, where the GUIDE and drivers can communicate with one another as regards to their location and situation not to mention the interesting information that is shared with participants.  The fun part is the many interesting stories that are shared among participants taking the boredom out of the long distances we need to travel to enjoy the great outdoors.

We suggest all 4x4 vehicles that don’t have a 29MHz two-way radio, HIRE one from us at a nominal fee of R200.00 for this excursion.

Should you be hiring a 29MHz radio, please ensure that your lighter socket is working.  If you intend running more than one item from the lighter socket, ensure to have a double adapter handy as well as spare fuses for this excursion.

NB:  If your vehicle is fitted with a 29MHz radio, please make sure that channels 1, 14 and 23 are open and working for this excursion.

Should you wish to make a once off investment and purchase a 29MHz radio, we have negotiated a special deal for all Cederberg 4x4 participants.  For more information, contact Ingrid on 021 913 4632.
