Opened in 1984, the Lutzville Golf Club has an interesting nine-hole parkland layout with eighteen different tees. The fairways and bayview greens are well maintained all year-round and the course 5732 metres, is classed as one of the best in the area, and a real challenge to the low handicaps. The town, originally named Vleermuijsklip, which means bat rock was named after a rocky outcrop and overhang just outside the town. This outcrop is now a national monument. The name Vleermuijsklip was later changed to Lutzville. The town was named after John Lutz, an irrigation engineer. The impressive Sishen Saldanha railway bridge just outside Lutzville was constructed across the Olifants River on the R363. Lutzville is situated between the Atlantic Ocean on the west and the Olifants River inland.
