eendekuil
Eendekuil is located 30km north of Piketberg on the R44. The small hamlet, is ideally situated for exploring. Only 150km north of Cape Town the town nestles at the foot of Piekeniers Pass & the Cederberg, on the edge of the Swartland, near the “flower world” and only 80km from the sea.
Until the end of the Anglo-Boer War, Eendekuil was the terminus for the railway lines from Cape Town. It still serves as the railhead for the citrus crop of the Citrusdal district on the other side of the Olifants River Mountains. Eendekuil is well known for the outstanding quality of Cheddar and Gouda cheese produced in its cheese factory. Milk is delivered from all the dairy farms scattered throughout the region. |

Graafwater
Graafwater lying roughly midway between Clanwilliam and Lambert’s Bay, was established after the railway junction was built in 1910 between Cape Town and Bitterfontein to serve the transportation of agricultural products of the Clanwilliam area and the seafood products of Lambert’s Bay.
The town owes its name to the fact that water could only be obtained here by digging wells or drilling boreholes.
The town was further developed by the local Dutch Reformed Church of Leipoldtville. A few years later Graafwater Dutch Reformed Church formed its own congregation. Leipoldtville was named after Friederich Leipoldt, the then minister at Clanwilliam and father of poet and author C.Louis Leipoldt. |

aurora, Sandveld
Aurora, meaning 'daybreak' is set against the slopes of an imposing mountain in the middle of the Sandveld. In summer the area can look dry and colourless in contrast to the lush green mountain, but after the first rains the area is transformed into a paradise of flowers. An almost forgotten village close to the very famous Verloren Vlei (RAMSAR protected) for the nature lover to explore, Aurora offers fantastic birdwatching, hiking, fauna & flora, San rock art, cycling, 4x4 routes and is only 20 minutes away from the Atlantic Ocean at Dwarskersbos.
This area of the Western Cape is well known for its spring flowers and excellent bird life. Aurora was first established as a church centre for the people in the area but it broke away from the congregation of Piketberg in 1906. By 1866 building work had started already on a small church on the farm Rietvlei. The present church was completed in 1908 and the first minister was Reverend C R Ferreira, a former Boer prisoner of war in Ceylon. When his daughter was baptised here, he called her Ceylonia Aurora. |
