Swartland Wine Cellarswartland wine cellar

Along the West Coast Road from Cape Town gradual changes in vegetation take place. Hectares of wheat and grapes suddenly stretch out on either side, as far as the eye can see.

This area, called the Swartland both rich in vines and one of the bread baskets of South Africa is home to one of the top Wineries in South Africa, namely the Swartland Winery.

Situated close to Malmesbury, Swartland Winery, the largest producer in the Swartland region was founded as a co-operative in 1948. The 15 farmers grew to 48 by 1950, and  were soon supplying 2,500 tons of grapes annually.

Oak Barrels in the Swartland Wine CellarArea soils are ideally suited and the moderate climate is perfect for the cultivation of grapes of outstanding quality.

Shortages of water in the area support naturally un irrigated bushvine vineyards that produce smaller grape berries with highly concentrated colour and flavour. These are the elements experienced when flavouring a bottle of wine from Swartland Winery.

Swartland Cellar VineyardsToday the winery is the 3rd largest co-operative cellar in South Africa, producing approximately 1.2 million cases of wine a year.

At this time, the co-operative produces approximately 23 000 tons of grapes per year and exports around 70% of their product to more than 30 countries.

The winery handles every aspect of production, from harvest right through to delivery, resulting in the production of wines that meet only the highest of standards. The wines produced under the Swartland name include their premier range, Indalo, Swartland Wines, Eagle Crest and d’Vine.
