Along the West Coast Road from Cape Town gradual changes in vegetation take place. Hectares of wheat and grapes suddenly stretch out on either side, as far as the eye can see.
Shortages of water in the area support naturally un irrigated bushvine vineyards that produce smaller grape berries with highly concentrated colour and flavour. These are the elements experienced when flavouring a bottle of wine from Swartland Winery. Today the winery is the 3rd largest co-operative cellar in South Africa, producing approximately 1.2 million cases of wine a year. At this time, the co-operative produces approximately 23 000 tons of grapes per year and exports around 70% of their product to more than 30 countries.
